MAGGIE MOORE SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED

Remy Wilkins, a junior at Jenkins, is the second recipient of the Margaret Torras Moore Tennis Scholarship. This scholarship will allow Remy to further develop his tennis skills by sponsoring his attendance at Chuck Krieses (Clemson University coach) tennis camp in Charleston, S.C. for a week this June. www.totaltennistraining.com

The scholarship was established in 2007 in memory of Maggie Moore, who died tragically in an automobile accident. Mrs. Moore was an avid tennis player who played with a drive to excel in tennis as in life. Her life was centered on family, church, friends and tennis and she enriched the lives of everyone around her. Her death was a great loss to her family, friends and the tennis community. Maggie's team, the A1 Landings Savannah League Team, along with her family and many tennis friends have established the Maggie Moore Memorial Fund in order to award an annual scholarship to a summer sleepaway camp to a Savannah junior tennis player.

Remy Wilkins is 17 years old and a Junior at Jenkins High School. He began playing tennis in the 7th grade on his middle school tennis team. His love for tennis has grown since then and now he is the co-captain of the Jenkins High School boy's tennis team. This is his second year playing tennis for the Jenkins team. His first year on the team, he rotated in and out of #1 and #2 doubles, playing about half of the season. Jenkins was the region 3-AAAAA runner-up and made it to the second round of the state playoffs. During the summer, he took many clinics from Tom Grafton in Effingham County, trying to sharpen his skills. He is currently taking lessons from George Greene, SATA instructor and USTA District 8 Representative. Remy feels that he has lots of room to grow and is assured that this camp is the perfect opportunity to hone his skills. He wishes to play Intramurally and aspires to attend either the University of Georgia or the University of South Florida.

Remy would like to thank Jenkins Coach D.A. Smith and SATA reps Phyllis and George Greene, for believing in and supporting him in this wonderful sport. He would also like to thank his mom for believing in him and giving him the many opportunities to become a better tennis player.
