SINGLES FLEX LEAGUE

Registration for the winter season of the 2010/2011 SATA Singles Flex League will open in approx mid October, with play expected to start in early November.

About the League:

The Singles Flex League is formatted to accomplish two goals:

1. Provide more competitive playing opportunities for those who enjoy playing singles, and

2. Be flexible enough to involve those who could not commit to a set playing time each week.

BEFORE THE MATCH:

A new match is assigned every week. There is a home team player and a visitor assigned for the match. Either player can call or email the other first to establish communication. You may even want to do this early before the date assigned staying ahead of the schedule. If you need to go out of town, you may arrange to play a match early before it is assigned. Once a match is scheduled if either player cancels that is a default. The tendency in this league has been to be more flexible and reschedule. I will warn you that this may lead to getting behind in matches and having the time run out. Please also consider this may even impact the rest of your flight.

Communication is key for this league to run smoothly. Each of you will furnish an email address and a phone number so that others (including myself) can reach you. You must check these often and respond promptly to each other. If you have tried by both email and phone to reach an opponent and he/she has not responded I need to know this during the first week of scheduled play. I will then try to establish communication, and if no response comes the match will be considered defaulted (by your opponent) at the end of the two week period.

You and your opponent may agree on where and when to play. The home team player may insist on using his courts, but if you agree to change the location you should make sure you know which of you will reserve the court and pay the fees. Otherwise, home team players are responsible for reserving a court, paying any court fees for both players, and bringing an unopened can of balls (appropriate for that surface) to the match. The pros at some facilities have asked that all members and guests follow their rules, particularly as it pertains to dress code. There are sometimes rules about shirts, but especially shoes. You must wear tennis shoes appropriate for clay courts.

Match Play will follow all USTA rules and regulations.

AFTER THE MATCH:

The scores for each match are due to be entered into the computer two weeks from the assigned match date (not counting bye weeks). Another way of looking at this is that scores from match one will be due the date assigned to match three, match two due on date of match four, etc.

Both players are responsible for entering the score. It doesn't matter who was home or who won. After one does enter the score, the other player should also go to the score entry, read it over, and then click to confirm the score.

I check all entries the day after they are due. Scores not entered on time are considered overdue. The match may then be entered by me as a double default. If however, before I check I have been asked, by either player, via phone or email, for extra time I will not enter the double default until the following week, if it is still overdue.
